Unknown Miner Trophies

 

10 Unknown Miner Trophies were recently delivered to the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, Engineering faculty. The 30cm high bronze figures will be presented as awards for achievement in a wide range of areas. The text on the plaques is as follows:

"The Unknown Miner”

(1906 - 1970)

This is the trophy version of the figure at the
University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.
It commemorates the contribution of all
who worked in the mining industry of
South Africa and the educational role of the
University since its founding in 1922.
